The Camper is in Ireland!

We've bought the Beige '78 now, and John will use parts from the Yellow '77 that also arrived to provide parts etc for it.

Finding the exact colours on the web was v handy.

Yes, the two rolling shells John has got from Calafornia have finally drifted over to Holland and will be in Ireland next week! We'll go down and see them and pick one. Luckily the cash is there, just means a few bills get paid a bit later, ho-hum...

According to John, he was talking to the shipper yesterday and the parts in Alabama (the kitchen bits) are being picked up today and as far as he knows the two buses have left LA at this point.

Through the eircooled site, I got in touch with John Hickey of Krazy Kombis down in Kilkenny (Always makes we think of South Park). We exchanged a few emails and it turned out he had just ordered what I needed from Calafornia: A 77-78, Westfalia Type 2, Volkswagon Camper van, with Automatic transmission. Left hand drive, but not a big issue.

He sent me a few photos above.The 77 looks more like what we want, we're thinking of a cream on top, coffee colour below combo for the colours outside, inside, I don't know, but all new since we have 2 asthmatics in the family. But I like the layout inside of the 77-78's best, I think they have more flor space, and I like the swivel front seat and the walk through from thefront to the back.

We went down on Saturday to meat John and have a look at the camper he worked on for the eircooled raffle (which raised over 17k for charity) and some others he is working on. It was great to climb around in one and get a feel for it. We gave him a deposit, and now we're waiting for the 2 campers to come form California, it'll be about 2-3 months before we travel down again and look over both and choose one.
